Buffalo Chicken Chowder
by Don on October 17, 2009
I went up to Shelburne Falls today to pick up some knives I was having sharpened at Lamson and Goodnow. If you’ve never stopped in to the factory store, it is a candy store for the cook. 40% off with some even better deals on overstocks. But I digress.
They were having a tent sale, which meant dozens of people and a long checkout line. But they also were serving Pulled Pork sandwiches. For free. Pretty good pork and a nice sauce. Chatting with the cook and with a Lamson’s VP I know, Cliff, the cook suddenly served the two of us a healthy cup of what looked like chowder.
“Buffalo Chicken Chowder,” he said. Cream, potatoes, bacon, bits of cooked chicken, some blue cheese, and enough hot sauce for a nice glow, it was a great surprise. Cliff sprinked some blue cheese on top for the complete dish. Who’d a thunk it, but it worked. I plan to make it as soon as I can gather enough afficionados of Buffalo wings together. Cliff, the chef, runs Cliff’s Smokin’ Backyard Barbeque and Catering in Buckland, MA. His email is kphillips30@comcast.net. He said he went to a chowder cookoff near Troy, NY and ran through 30 gallons in 3 hours, missing out on the judging because there was none left.
I love the surprises that get thrown your way sometimes.
