Modern Spice

Modern SpiceI’ve always liked Indian food and when I read Monica Bhide’s Modern Spice, it evoked all the reasons why I like Indian food–complexity of flavor being the most important. I am friends with her on a writer’s discussion group and she asked whether I’d be interested in writing a guest blog post on her site, detailing my experiences cooking from Modern Spice. If you like Indian food, I’d recommend it. There are a lot of spices in it, but they are easily available these days in an Asian grocery. The book is aptly named–the spicing is Indian, but the recipes are from a modern cook who has lived in Dubai and Washington D.C. in addition to India. The appetizer section is especially interesting.
